The Long Time Academy

Life is short. Time is long. Right now so many of us are burnt out and overwhelmed: by the pandemic; by the uncertainty of the future; and by huge challenges like climate change, systemic racism, and inequality. The Long Time Academy is an immersive and entertaining new podcast that steps into this space with one clear message: changing the way we choose to engage with time can be life-changing, both when it comes to the problems we’re facing day to day, and to the huge threats we’re facing as a species. Hosted by co-founder of The Long Time Project, Ella Saltmarshe, The Long Time Academy hopes to give listeners a sense of spaciousness, awe and passion to become good ancestors.

    Love love love
Such a rich, stimulating, challenging collection of ideas, histories, and commentary. Extremely well produced and curated. I loved every minute of it and looked forward to every episode.

    A moving podcast
I wasn’t sure I wanted or needed any sort of “self-help” or “self-improvement.” But luckily, this podcast is entirely different. It’s a powerful and moving conversation that encourages you to experience great truths. Try it out! It may give some comfort or peace that you need, even for an hour. Sometimes that’s all you need.

    Not really groundbreaking
While this podcast does present some interesting ideas about viewing our lives over a longer timeframe, it seems to really be concerned with convincing listeners to take action on issues such as climate change and inequality and disparaging our modern economy and systems as unsustainable. While these issues are important and worth thinking about, it would be nice to hear some balance in the ideas and interviews.

    The power of audio
I don’t what the past two reviews are even about so if you’re reading this start with this one. This is an incredible experience. Emphasis on the word experience. Listen to this when you have the time and space to be present. On a calm walk or intentionally in your home. Be open. This series is an excellent example of how audio can transport you, especially in the right hands. Not only is the writing and the project itself well thought out, from concept to interviewees and how they weave together, the sound design is masterful and beautiful. I’m going to send this to as many people as I can. As a lesson in shifting worldview. As a lesson in listening. As a lesson in practicing connecting with others across time and space and deeper into ourselves, and coming out with calmer and stronger insight to shape a better world. The first meditation exercise unleashed a powerful emotional response in me. Thank you Long Time Project, thank you Scenery, thank you Headspace studios, and all of the guests. I can’t imagine the work that went into this. Thank you to everyone who played a part. I’m sad I haven’t listened sooner but I believe this came into my life at the right time.

    Surprised
I can understand Reason accepting this podcast’s advertising money, but after listening to several episodes I’m surprised their on-air editors and staff promotes it.

Sorry I didn’t mean to swipe stars
